Is there any excuse for a husband/wife to hit their "beloved" partner?

Another would be some form of distress or hysteria and you are trying to save them, but thier survival instinct is fighting you, such as drowning or fire , or a phobia..and you have to slap or hit them to incompacitate or bring back to reality. Basicaly if it may save thier life, it will be acceptable.
