Why did Google change their calendar layout???

I LIKED the old layout! It was easy to read! I hate the chunky, colorful, blocky new layout. It wasn't broken...why did you have to 'fix' it, Google??? I hate it! Give me the 'classic calendar' back, or at least give me the OPTION to change and not force me into it! Grr...
