If you feel threatened by someone, how long should you wait to get a temporary restraining order?

If somebody waits an entire month after the incident, isn't there something phony about that? That the person wasn't really afraid?

Don't wait at all! By the time they do something, it will be too late.

@flipper1966 If there hasn't been any further threat made since then, there's no need for an order as the person clearly lost interest.
@LeopoldBloom Someone took out a protection order against me and waited a month after the incident. He got the protection order easily.
@flipper1966 I'm not saying it wouldn't be granted, only that it may not be necessary at that point.
@LeopoldBloom Well, the order was granted. Now my Second Amendment rights have been infringed because under federal law I can't buy a gun for a 5 year period.
@flipper1966 Can you contest that? Someone can't just file a restraining order for no reason, can they? Or if they exaggerate the threat, you should be able to object.

Otherwise, I could file a restraining order against my neighbor because he keeps coming over here to borrow tools and never returns them.
