Are you opposed to "Toddlers in Tiara's"?

I most certainly am.

These events attract some of the most unsavory characters, in fact, it's like pandering to pedophiles.

It promotes a false set of values, basing the idea of attractiveness on physical appearance so that young girls not really pretty feel less valued than those who are.

I think mothers of these events are often living a youth vicariously through their daughters, also, the girls who don't win often feel they have failed to meet the unrealistic goals of their mothers.

I think mothers who do enter their daughters are irresponsible, I would like to see these beauty competitions banned. (until at least until age 18)...even then I think these events are outdated and ridiculous.

I watched a few of these shows. I saw beautiful, natural little girls being forced to learn routines and to compete. Toddlers as young as two and even babies were prepared. Children cried, had temper tantrums, and other behavioural problems. Some mothers forced their small children to drink sugary drinks to keep them energized and to eat all manner of sweet candy too. I found many of the mothers had problems: they fought with other mothers; they spent thousands of dollars on clothes for the contestants-mostly forced their children into pageants. After the competition, the losers were so upset and felt they were failures while the winners seemed spoiled or didn't care they had won. I find the sexualization of these children is heinous, and these pageants should be banned.
@PoetryNEmotion WOW! you really brought up some great observations, you should consider starting some kind of consciousness raising workshops, I imagine at least some of the mothers would (hopefully) think twice. you've really brought up some serious food for thought. GOOD JOB!!!
@Coyotedave611 Thanks, but no thanks. I just like observing people. Who would force a child to wear false teeth that hurt for long hours or to make a four-year-old practice routines for long minutes? It is abusive. Those mothers wouldn't listen. They aren't interested in being mothers who care-they just want to win at their children's expenses. Thanks for your comments. I don't see you much here. What do you think about these children being made to look so hideous and to me, like prostitutes?

@Coyotedave611 I can't see what that person said so I must have blocked him at some point ..therefore your response is sarcasm?
@Fernie Honey I'm a bit confused, not sure what post you're thinking of. I certainly would not have directed sarcasm toward you. :(
@Coyotedave611 Thanks for best answer.

@Coyotedave611 NO NO! Your response stating"WOW! you really brought up some great observations, you should consider starting some kind of consciousness raising workshops, I imagine at least some of the mothers would (hopefully) think twice. you've really brought up some serious food for thought. GOOD JOB!!!" I can't see who you are responding to or what they said because I probably blocked them at some point...I'm clear as mud ain't I
@PoetryNEmotion A distant relative started posting photo's of her daughter, about 4 years old, I was totally disgusted seeing a mere baby with mascara, eyeshadow, and hair like a Vegas showgirl. What really set me off is that it was at the same time as the Jon Bennet murder, I totally lambasted the mother (something I very seldom do. I kept thinking, this young, innocent relative could have ended up another Jon Bennet.
@Fernie It was "PoetryNmotion" who wrote the response, you may have blocked her, glad we cleared this up hon!
@Coyotedave611 I have trouble believing any mother would think that dressing her child up like those pageant kids would be something positive and beautiful to do! Good for you to tell her that. She needed a reality check, my friend.

@Coyotedave611 I'm glad you let her have it!!!!
@Coyotedave611 I blocked Fernie long ago for rudeness. I keep seeing comments and I don't know what is going on. Thanks.
@PoetryNEmotion I've had that happen, I don't block very often, but yes it can be confusing. I wish more people would be pro-active about these "beauty" events at least with children.
@Coyotedave611 Funny thing is that the children don't make much money either. They get large trophies or ribbons and flowers. They should be banned. Nice talking with you.
Same here hon. And do feel free to message me anytime.
@Coyotedave611 Drop by when you wish. Thank you.
