The Swiss have an unusual approach in that the citizen is also a 'soldier' and therefore military weapons are kept in the national defence.

@wildrosez Gun ownership in Switzerland is at about 45 per 100 people, so not everyone has a gun. USA is at 89 per 100 people. Gun homicides are about a third of those in USA.
Most weapons are for military purposes and kept at the homes of citizens who are also soldiers. In the USA most weapons are for 'hunting and sporting' purposes, not military. The situations in both countries are very different.
