I see Trumps solution to the gun problem is to arm teachers - what makes him think more guns is the answer?

It is not an unheard of idea, it would not have to be teachers but we need guns in school to secure schools. Israel requires schools with 100 or more students to be guarded. A civilian police force handles the entire security system of all schools from kindergarten through college. The Ministry of Education funds shelters and fences, reinforces school buses, and hires and trains guards. And yes they have guns. The guards don’t just stand around. They check everyone entering, and engage threats, and provide self-defense.

Secured schools and dedicated personnel in community police departments who respond to and vet alleged threats is how you stop this thing. If all you do is pass some gun laws and laws directed at so called crazy people putting them on lists of one sort or another just get ready for more.

@Johnson212 Are you seriously comparing Israel with America.

SMFH! You people are insane.
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
@room101 No I am seriously appreciating their diligence at protecting their schools. But you don't have to go to Israel to find schools that does not let just anyone who wants to wander around with a bag big enough to carry a rifle. There are plenty of schools in the US who do not let you in unless you have business there.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Johnson212 Their diligence is because their population lives under the constant threat of attack.

Oh wait, that's what America has become because you lot think that an outdated bit of your constitution is more important than the lives of your children.

Yeah, you're just like Israel.
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
If you don't like our guns next time some dictator wants to take over your tiny island don't bother to call. It was america with their guns and fighting attitude that pulled your country out of certain defeat along with the rest of Europe.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Johnson212 "next time some dictator wants to take over your tiny island don't bother to call."

We should have learned that lesson in 1914 when it took you three years to do anything in WW1. But we had faith that you were real allies so, we tried again in 1939. Sadly, it took you another three years to do anything.

How long did it take Britain to stand by your side in Afghanistan and in either of the wars in Iraq. We were there from the start. BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT ALLIES DO!

Do you know what, keep your guns. Keep killing each other. It's natural selection at work.
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
We did not should have learned our lesson but in fact did learn our lesson, in 1774 the English put an import ban on firearms and gunpowder; later that year in in 1775 they moved to confiscations of firearms and gunpowder; and the use of violence to effectuate the confiscations. It was these events that changed a situation of political tension into a shooting war so when the British demeaned gun control we took out guns and shot them. The was the basis of our Second Amendment of which you complain.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Johnson212 So you start off by comparing America to Israel and suggest that American schools become like Israeli schools, A NATION UNDER CONSTANT SIEGE FROM FOREIGN POWERS. You then throw in the usual load of bollocks about how America saved our tiny little island from a dictator, IGNORING THE HISTORICAL FACT THAT AMERICA SAT IDLY BY FOR THREE YEARS. And now you're turning back the clock 225 years.

WAKE UP! YOU'RE IN THE 21ST CENTURY! YOU'RE LIVING IN A DEVELOPED WORLD NATION, NOT SOME UNDEMOCRATIC BACKWATER.
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
@room101 You can't say what I said by just putting what I said in quotes, you have to rephrase what I said by saying something that I did not say so you can say I said it. I never compared America to Israel I commented on their approach to school safety, since America did actually save your tiny little island I would not call it a load of bollocks, and America did not sit by idly either, During World War II, the United States provided significant military supplies and other assistance to the Allies before entering the way. They did so because your policy of appeasement did not work with Hitler.

Turning the clock back 225 years is relevant because we still to day hold onto the rights we secured by bloodshed guaranteeing we preserve the basic human right of self defense. You want to give up your rights that is your business but don't criticize us for staying the course.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Johnson212 "can't say what I said by just putting what I said in quotes"

you really are special ain't ya

I was wrong about one thing, you're not turning back the clock. You froze the clock.
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
@room101 apparently florida does not agree with you, they turned down the gun ban and passed a law that would allow some teachers to be armed.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Johnson212 I don't expect anybody in America to agree with me. You're all too busy masturbating over your guns to have the time for any rational thoughts to seep into your demented consciousness.
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
@room101 I don't expect anybody who gets even knives taken away from them to understand, I was reading where you can't even have a knife over 3 inches. I guess when someone wants to make a victim out of you it is just too bad for you. I see self defense as a human right. Go ahead roll over and be victims who think their government can protect them.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Johnson212 Yeah, us poor Brits have got it so bad because of our interfering government. Three mass shootings in 40+ years. Being able to go about our daily lives without the threat of being shot or stabbed. Having a police force that doesn't need to be armed. Having a police force that doesn't kill citizens for traffic violations.

Seriously, what are we thinking.
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
@room101 You are right, I am surprised anyone at all wants to come here, we probably don't even need immigration laws it is to terrible. Just to put things in prospective the numbers have not been completely compiled for 2017 but in 2016 in the US Rifles which include ones like this school shooting killed 374 people, blunt objects including hammers killed 472, opiods overdose killed 52,898. Medical error killed 250,000 but you don't see a move to ban doctors. You must assume that things will never go bad, that your government can never change to one that is tyrannical or you can never be taken over by a tyrannical regime. You must believe these things or else you would have preserved your right to self defense like we did. History teaches us different.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Johnson212 It's OK. Keep your guns. No problem. Keep killing each other. It's natural selection at work. ENJOY!
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
@room101 You are right it is natural selection at work here that is why we are the most advanced nation on the planet and the only one who ever had people walking around on the moon. The idea of american exceptionalism is enshrined in history and you can't change that. Leave the mix alone including the guns.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Johnson212 32,000 gun deaths per year. Every year. Keep at it. 👍
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
@room101 You can't even get that right, first place you use firearms deaths which purposely includes suicide in gun violence in order to inflate the statistics. The U.S. Department of Justice reports that approximately 60% of all adult firearm deaths are by suicide. You are more than doubling the problem.

It really does not matter if you are killed by a gun, knife, or hammer, you are just as dead. The murder rate is the US is 4 times that of Great Britain but we have more violent people than you do. As a percentage of the population we have 4 times as many black people and the differences in brown people from the southern Americas is even greater. .

At first this might sound like some kind of racist rant but fact are facts, look up the murder rates yourself by county. What you will find is that the African and Southern America regions are the most violent places on the planet in terms of murder. You can pretend it is just a coincidence that the US has 4 times the blacks as the UK and 4 times the murder rate but you would just be pretending. It is not the guns it is the people.

You can pretend it is racist talk but then you have to consider the source, facts are facts, according to the US Department of Justice, African Americans accounted for 52.5% of all homicide offenders from 1980 to 2008. The offending rate for African Americans was almost 8 times higher than whites, and the victim rate 6 times higher.

It is not the guns it is the people. We make a big deal about the school shootings and rightfully so but we make the wrong assumptions from it. These deaths are a drop in the bucket when compared to day to day deaths.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Johnson212 I'm not pretending or distorting anything. 32,000 gun deaths in America every year. 25 gun deaths in the UK.

Keep at it 👍
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
@room101 Again you missed the point, we have more deaths period because we have more violent people, if someone sticks a gun in their mouth to end there life there is not difference in that and stepping off a tall building more than half of so called gun deaths are suicide where once again it has nothing to do with the gun just the person, if you want to end your life that is your business. Americans are different we have our guns so as not to be victims of tyranny not to please anyone else. And it works too, nobody since the British of course (and they were not successful because we shot them) , has tried to take us over nor have there been any internal replacement of our political system with tyranny. We like things the way they are the rest of yall need to just get over it.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Johnson212 Sorry chump, hate to break it to you but the evidence is clear. Less guns equals less gun deaths. So no, I'm not missing the point...........you're refusing to see it!

But it's cool. Keep your guns. Keep killing each other. Natural selection at work.

👍
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
@room101 Yes, and you could have even fewer deaths if you also outlawed sodas and sugary foods, cigarettes, and alcohol.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Johnson212 nice try. thing is, none of those things are specifically designed and made with the sole intention and purpose...........TO KILL!
Johnson212 · 61-69, M
@room101 But they do, if you are going to let people decide things then you let them decide things. As long at you are not a prohibited person I have no problem with you having a gun designed and made with the sole intention and purpose to kill. One that just stings a bit when hit won't do you much good except maybe for practice.
room101 · 51-55, M
@Johnson212 Why and how does a gun do me any "good"?
