A troll, in my opinion, is a person who deliberately posts offensive material with the intention of upsetting others.
@SW-User see I remeber trol being people who would social engineer a desired response such as flame wars or something funny happening.
Like posting something wrong and having a million people correct them. Or asking people what the command line for logging out of a game and watching the log in numbers drop

@terribleperson I didn't really follow your posts, but "deliberately posting offensive material with the intention of upsetting others" does seem pretty classic definition of troll.
It seems to be used in more wider sense here; I've been referred to as troll before, and I don't really post stuff just to get an (emotional) reaction. I think that's the core of trolldom, also as attested to in phrases like "trolling for attention" etc. To some degree it's a slippery slope because I think we're all here hoping to get some kind of attention, the ones saying they only post for themselves the most of all ;)
Anyway here it doesn't seem to be even just "person who posts things I don't like" but sometimes apparently person who makes a lot of posts as opposed to sticking to PM's.

@terribleperson Chances are I'm a little bit troll. 🤔 Nahh, but seriously I've wondered it about myself. I think there's no term for people who stay exclusively or mainly to PM's. In the early months there were some angry posts about how "I'm lonely, someone message me" doesn't give you a reason to invade their mailbox followed by dozens of "You go girl!", but it seems now like mass-mailing the users is even encouraged. I don't git it, I can talk to random strangers on the Internet all I want.
Anyway, I agree, I'm constantly perplexed by the use of some words and etiquette on SW. I'll commit a mortal sin and quote Wikipedia's definition of troll "In Internet slang, a troll (/troʊl, trɒl/) is a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting quarrels or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community (such as a newsgroup, forum, chat room, or blog) with the intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal, on-topic discussion, often for the troll's amusement."
I think many of the political posts & posters here fulfill the deepest definition of trolling, but like I said, I get it's a bit slippery slope and usually I try to avoid calling anybody a troll. But I'll talk about there being trolls.

But if u aren't envoking discourse between the site, I its just u and someone else, is it really working? Isn't it just a conversation and someone being a dick?
