Why don’t they cut down Suicide Forest in Japan?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot, especially since that idiot Youtuber incident. And I thought even the name “suicide forest” sort of encourages it, so why don’t they just knock it down? Ordinarily a forest isn’t somewhere I’d go to kill myself, but it isn’t somewhere I’d go for a laugh either, but if they called it “funny forest” I might walk through and have a bit of a laugh because that’s what the name suggests. Obviously I know that suicide isn’t brought on just by a place name but I don’t think it helps that they have a designated place for it.

It's called that because of all the suicides that have apparently happened there, its real name is Aokigahara, or Sea of Trees.

I didn’t know what the original name was, it strikes me as odd that they chose the forest to kill themselves in.

I don't know why they do, either, but it's apparently the second most popular place in the world for suicides. Pretty creepy when you think about it, since it's also traditionally thought of as a home for the spirits of the dead.
