@SW-User In many countries where marriages are arranged falling in love is not considered as significant as it is in countries where people choose their spouses mainly based on falling in love. Also, the whole concept of romance and romantic love has not always existed at all times in history, at least not as we perceive it today. When I say "expectations" I am referring to the fact that by the preteen years, kids in my world (north America) see romantic love and sexual activity as a sort of requirement for maturity. How many times do we see someone in their teens posting something like, "Is something wrong with me? I am ___teen years old already and I don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend!!!" And a bunch of people here answer something like, "Don't worry! It will happen..." In other words, even those answering such posts reinforce the idea that it "will happen" because that reflects what our culture expects for the young (and often as young as possible!)
