No. Lots of Americans go overseas and volunteer in various programs, such as the Peace Corps and other programs. They give money and various forms of aid to countries in need, expecting no reward except for the satisfaction of knowing that they have helped someone.
I can't necessarily speak for the majority of Americans, but I know that many are good and are very underappreciated. I wonder what would happen if Americans stopped doing that. Would they remember what we had done in the past and maybe stop taking us for granted? Or would they take any notice at all?
Sadly, I think a lot of people in other parts of the world seem to base their opinion of America, and Americans especially, on what they see on TV. TV shows portray Americans as shallow, self-centered people who live lavish lifestyles, are very immoral, and have lives that are full of drama, like soap operas. How many of these people have actually visited America and seen the struggles that many of us actually go through in our daily lives? How many of them actually know any real Americans personally?
