Should the government be able to make laws against polygamy?

On what grounds, if we separate church and state?

Cultures built on monogamy are likely vanish in the long term. Polygamy has been the norm throughout human existence and there's good reason to believe it's a powerful evolutionary tool

@plungesponge lots of great plans from natural selection are illegal based on religion and its influence. It seems to me that, taken to the extreme, if we remove religion from law, we approach anarchy. I think it is insurance companies and a lot of other organizations that require the status quo to continue profits. As long as it is consentual, why make it illegal?

haha well polygamy is illegal to some religions (eg Christianity) but it's legal in others (eg Islam). If we look at what is happening in Europe, it turns out in a democracy you can just breed your political views into the government rather than debate them, so the immigrants who have half a dozen kids are on their way to running those countries.

So I don't think it's strictly a case of religion going against natural selection, it's more that the religions that include evolutionary advantages take over the religions that don't.
