Why do we use the word heart for emotional purposes?

Like "heart VS brain" dilemmas or "you're in my heart" etc. I mean, it's just muscle and can only pump blood through our bodies. We are our brains.

The heart has a brain. It's interesting. It's the only organ in the human body that has a brain of it's own. I think philosophy is wonderful subject, and I have to agree that the heart is the place where love lives, even though the mind does most of the work.

@puck61 what do you mean the heart has a brain? The brain is nervous tissue, the heart is muscular.

@HannibalAteMeOut if you think about it though...that muscle reacts physically to strong emotions...it beats rapidly. No other muscle or organ reacts to emotions like that
@HannibalAteMeOut No, the heart has an actual brain of it's own.

@Fernie but that's how it reacts when we're anxious too... and in a more intense way. Maybe when they first used this term they had less anxiety and stress and more love 😛

@puck61 ever heard of anatomy? What exactly is the heart's brain? 😂
@HannibalAteMeOut That's what gets me. People don't know these things, but yes, the heart has a brain of it's own.

@puck61 the brain is an organ of the central nervous system. The ganglia of the heart are neurons that belong in the autonomic nervous system which belongs in the peripheral nervous system, which connects each organ to the brain. The ganglia of the heart just do that, like the ganglia of the liver, stomach, lungs etc do. The heart has no brain of its own. It would be more logical to say that the spinal cord is a brain than to confuse the ganglia with it.
@HannibalAteMeOut The heart has a brain of it's own!

@puck61 you can't support it with logic and basic anatomy knowledge, so please don't repeat it. You said you find philosophy awesome, well philosophy is the love of wisdom, it's not about making arbitrary statements without research. The heart is connected to ganglia, it has no brain. It's 2017 A.D., you can find a heart transplantation surgery or an autopsy online and watch it for yourself.
Fernie · F
@HannibalAteMeOut yes...that's my point...it reacts to emotions. Why are you so eager to discount that?
Fernie · F
@HannibalAteMeOut wow...you are taking this to a really silly place. Not much of a romantic huh? All scientist
@Fernie The heart has a brain of it's own. This is not pseudo science . This is anatomy plain and simple. your denial is the denial of academic science.
@puck61 Oooops. Sorry Fernie, I was talking to the fingered person.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@Fernie haha yeah I'm not known for my romantic feelings or my feelings in general. Yes I get what you're saying about emotions and I don't disagree. I'm just answering "scientifically" to @puck61 who wants to make me forget what I know 😄
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@puck61 lol I guess you've seen many hearts in flesh and blood (or in methanol). Or read many anatomy books. Please, read about your own brain, the CNS, PNS, sympathetic and parasympathetic. Read about cells and tissue. Search for pictures. You can even go and beg a medical professor to get you into the anatomy room of the university and show you an actual heart. Just don't say such "facts", it's worse than saying the earth is flat 😆
@HannibalAteMeOut You're being an idiot. Have a nice evening or morning or whatever....
covfefe234 · 31-35, M
@HannibalAteMeOut lolol I bet those two idiots also believe the earth is flat XD
@covfefe234 This is regular academic knowledge. You're making fun of yourself. You should know these things junior.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@puck61 Show me an academic book or a an academic professor who claims so. I'm waiting...
@HannibalAteMeOut It's common knowledge you silly person.
HannibalAteMeOut · 22-25, F
@puck61 common knowledge because of "my heart will go on"? Lol really every single doctor and medical professor is tearing their diplomas apart right now 😂 ask yourself how are heart transplantations common while brain transplantations aren't possible? Do you think the people who have heart transplants love the ones that their heart donor did?
