What does it take to be a man?

Someone once told me it was providing more than you take.

I think this goes back to the traditional or at least societal imposed roles of genders.
A man is supposed to be the stronger element in a unit, he is supposed to take care of his loved ones by protecting them and by providing for them.
The providing role is now a grey area where the partners also bring in income but I think it is still looked upon him to protect the family.

But I don't believe he doesn't take as much as he gives. He takes differently, he takes nurture and a care of a different kind of a female partner.

I think a male/female relationship should be a symbiotic relationship and a man who doesn't feel threatened by his partner would be a real man according to me.

@SW-User Your own thoughts are sensible. Traditional and societal thoughts are a load of crap.
SW-User
@NankerPhelge Yeah they got stuck in an era people have long moved from. :)

@SW-User Why did they get stuck in that though? If they want to be stuck in the past, why not focus on everything else from the past except that? I don't get it. 🤔

@NankerPhelge People love exerting control. And the traditional views exert more control than my view or maybe what is a modern view.

Well hello again!

I agree with everything especially your last statement!

I wonder, do you feel it’s a fair trade off the uh “providing” and taking the nurture? So to speak.@SW-User

@Bearserks I told you we'd meet again. :)

I think when we are in a relationship with someone, 'fair trade' doesn't have place in it. It's not a business.
But to address your query about the fairness, they why not? Both men and women provide to their homes for what hopefully is a mutual goal and now that men are not so stoic and more open emotionally, they are also emotional nurturers to a degree. And that makes it balanced. Sometimes the male will take more, sometimes the female.

@SW-User Here’s to another meeting of the minds 🍻

That’s a very good point. I do sort of feel male nurturing is shunned though. Especially in schools. Hope my short replies don’t bother you. Mind keeps drifting towards food.

@Bearserks 🍻

It's sad that male nurturing is shunned. I think embracing this nurturing can add a positive benefit.
No I am not bothered by short replies or long ones for that matter. :)

@SW-User there are ups and downs to most things as I’m sure you know. Hopefully someday we will find the balance.
I’m glad 😊 you always write something well thought out and detailed and I feel bad when I can’t match it. I try to set you up for things though here and there.

@Bearserks I am just happy with the qn and the interaction. :)

🙂 see you around 🙃

@SW-User If people love exerting control, why don't they try to control society in such a way as to destroy traditional gender stereotypes? I wouldn't object to that.
SW-User
@NankerPhelge
But that is what all these gender fights are about partially. :) People do fight and try fighting. A lot of people do not fit in the traditional roles and live their lives successfully in the modern parameters.
Sometimes their (the ones fighting for gender rights) ethos gets misplaced by hate of each other and their focus changes fueled by hate.
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@SW-User What about people who are born with a desire to reverse the traditional roles? It has come to my attention that a lot of the conservative control freaks on SW tend to target people like that with all kinds of gratuitous abuse. Why do you think that is?
SW-User
@NankerPhelge LOL I do not have all these answers. :)
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@SW-User The one answer I have is that they must do it to annoy me, because they certainly don't do it to please me. What other reason could there be?
