Are You What You Consider To Be A "Nerd''?

So as the question goes. Nerd, geek, dork...we all know the kind of people we consider to be one of those names.

At school I used to get bullied and was called a 'nerd' by the other kids. I always wore my uniform properly, wore glasses, sat at the front of class, was the first to put my hand up to answer questions, a teachers pet...you know what I mean.

I was basically on my own. I sat on my own at lunch time, and whenever one of the kids in my form had a party i was never invited. I used to hate school and would go home and cry.

Now I'm older and at University and i kinda see it. I'm at work placement now and even though I can dress in jeans and a hoodie if i want I still dress smartly; sensible skirt and tights, polo shirt buttoned up and tucked into my skirt, glasses even though i usually wear contacts, hair sensibly tied up, plain black flat shoes.

Is dressing like that at 20 how a nerd dresses? Were the kids at school right all the long? Am I just a nerd?

I was called all those names and more. I went through 20 years with a very low self esteem. Never really TOTALLT got over it. I was physically and verbally bullied growing up in the 60's and 70's.

@UncleJlovesbrazil that should never happen to anyone, but if it should happen to you again or in front of you to another, please do remember that bullies are cowards and that's why they pick on the ones they think are weak.

It rarely takes much to scare them away, and one solid hit to the jaw usually sends them running.

@MaryJo1996 MaryJo, his comment indicated "physical and verbal abuse" meaning they beat him up as well as making fun of him.

Perhaps I wrote it badly, but self defense was my intended goal.

I was suggesting defending himself instead of letting them do it, as the ones who bully are cowards and easily overcome.

There is a time when a boy becomes a man, and bullies look like easily handled problems instead of scary things.

Some of us were held down too long by them and never made it there, I was hoping to encourage him to do so.

@th3r0n Violence is never the answer. The issue is why would someone be carrying a knife to begin with...that's the bigger problem.

@MaryJo1996 well people do. I carry 5 actually, though I have no intent to do any harm unless I am forced to.

There are people who have a knife, or a rock, or anything they can use as a weapon to hurt people.

So will you please answer me? If I saw you getting attacked by a man, whether he had a weapon or rock or nothing, what would you have me do?

I know what I would do anyway, I wouldn't just let that happen, but is that what you would want me to do? Sincerely?

Please answer me honest.

And for the record, I would not stand by and let any of that happen regardless of how you felt about it. If I can protect someone from such an attack I surely will.
