Maybe they need to be with someone who helps them with that?
SW-User
@Tryingtofindabalance He's right. I had a fiance who relied on me to BE is happiness to the point he was losing his mind. All because he didn't learn to be happy and love himself.

@Tryingtofindabalance yep seen that happen..

You can't do for someone what they're unwilling or unable to due for themselves

Not in a healthy way, they can’t. It does always come down to that . “One cannot pour from an empty cup.”
Miram · 31-35, F
Someone can't always be happy with themselves, just like with others. It's normal.

And true self love is really rare. It's no easy journey. Just that some are more transparent about their self perceptions.

I have seen couples who struggled with their esteem and yet managed to be there for each other for years.

I don't think the way you love yourself and the way you love others are necessarily related. They are different types of love.

I believe this is the longest conversation we ever had. By all means, I hope the rest of your evening is peaceful..
Tryingtofindabalance · 36-40, M
I’m not sure why we are discussing diagnosis of clinical disorders, or what types of people in society have the inability to care for others... but this getting way off topic.

Bottom line is this, i don’t care the context of every journal in the world, what I know is this...

Depression and low self image has destroyed past relationships... some people can’t cope, or will not accept help and creates a wedge in a relationship. Despite what you believe, this is a reality, look at other responses in this post... there are far more people agreeing than denying.., that doesn’t mean it’s 100% correct.., but there are enough experiences on here, including one who agreed as he was the one with the issues!

@Miram don’t think I am offended, I am all for constructive conversation, and would happy to have daily discussions with you

It's true. You can't give someone something you don't possess, and you can't really be there for someone of you're not there for yourself

the only thing i found is that when a peron doesnt love themselves. they put all that happiness on someone else. they make you their happiness. so it can become smothering.
Tryingtofindabalance · 36-40, M
@SW-User but that’s exactly what I am saying... what happens when you become the old news... they revert back to the norm and won’t accept your help
SW-User
ive found out you cant help others. if you try to help them or see the errors in the things they do or think they will turn on you.
Lochlee · 51-55, F
There is something in what you are saying. I think it applies to both sexes. Deep seated feelings of "not being good enough" do surface in various ways later in relationships when the "newness" - as you call it - wears off (which it inevitably does). The question is, what do you do about it, because most people have some level of self doubt.
dystopianAntihero · 56-60, M
@Lochlee It's def not limited to women. I think women may be somewhat more predisposed however, as a result of patriarchal culture which views women, as subordinate and inferior, even this day and age, unfortunately

That said, men can be needy and codependent, as well, and I've dealt with codepency issues myself, and the destructive relationships I've been apart of, not just romantically, but family relationship, as well, have certainly had an impact on me

And it's def beyond the type of self doubt the average person experiences
Tryingtofindabalance · 36-40, M
@dystopianAntihero ohh for sure, my experience has been with women, so I can only speak from experience, but women and men are no difference in this regard... unhappy is unhappy no mater the gender, race, or religion
Lochlee · 51-55, F
@dystopianAntihero I hear you, yes - being in a culture where you are often the "object" - with your identity dependent on external validation may predispose women. Good point.
Nope. I cannot stand it when people say that shit. Either the person loves you or not. There is no deeper meaning to it.
Tryingtofindabalance · 36-40, M
@MsAnnThropy Love isn’t just saying it... people say they love others with out showing it. When people hurt others based On thier own self reflection, it doesn’t scream love
SW-User
I bet they loved you though
This isn't looking good for you
Tryingtofindabalance · 36-40, M
@SW-User if love is telling me horrible things unnecessarily, rejecting support or just being constantly unnaccepting... then sure... you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink
