Are you from the mainland or the islands? Or from Cyprus?
SW-User
@Mugin16 The mainland. Northern Greece.
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@SW-User Nice. My Greek friends are from Cyprus.
SW-User
@Mugin16 I'm not sure people from Cyprus still want to be called Greeks after all they've been through because of us...but that's great, you're lucky! They're fun people.
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@SW-User Well, my friends still root for Greek teams in sport - football and basketball.
SW-User
@Mugin16 Haha,I see.😊
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@SW-User Another of my Greek friends lives in Ethiopia as his family emigrated there about a century.
SW-User
@Mugin16 What?! Wow!
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@SW-User Yes. But he told me he Needs to go to the sea (the Red Sea to be specific) every once in a while because he misses it. I am told him that he cannot deny his Greek heritage. :-)
SW-User
@Mugin16 Hmmmm I'm not a big fan of going to the sea though.🤔 Well...not anymore.
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@SW-User What happened?
SW-User
@Mugin16 Just got bored of the whole "Greek summer" thing. Though I was never particularly into it to begin with.
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@SW-User That might happen if you have the ocean just next to you and if it is warm and sunny all summer. You could spend your holidays in landlocked country with lots of mountains. :-)
SW-User
@Mugin16 I live next to mt. Olympus and the Pierian mountains. Haha. And I do prefer the mountains.
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@SW-User Awww then you can climb up Mount Olympus and say hello to all the gods and goddesses! 😀
SW-User
@Mugin16 I do that quite often!😊
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@SW-User 😨 So you are like a demi goddess? 🤔
SW-User
@Mugin16 Not really. Well...not at all.🤔
Mugin16 · 46-50, M
@SW-User Now that is disappointing. 😣
SW-User
@Mugin16 😟

@SW-User I'm a Greek Cypriot and, even though I've always wanted an independent Cyprus (as has all of my family), I still acknowledge and am very proud of my Greek identity.......as has all of my family.
SW-User
@room101 That's good to hear! A guy I used to study with was from Cyprus and didn't like it when someone called him Greek or...a Greek-Cypriot. And then explained why which is totally understandable.
room101 · 51-55, M
@SW-User I get that. However, when I come across Cypriots who are like that, I try to remind them that our Greek identity dates back to the very beginnings of Ancient Greek Culture and that it's incumbent on all of us not to lose sight of what makes us who we are.
SW-User
@room101 Ugh exactly! I agree. It's just that I know that Cypriots have suffered a lot because of Greek governments.
room101 · 51-55, M
@SW-User True. But if we look at the detail of what happened in 1974, it was Greek Cypriots who attempted a coup against the government. It was Greek Cypriots who started a, very short lived, civil war. And it was that civil war that gave the Turks an excuse to invade us.

Sure, those Greek Cypriots wanted ΕΝΩΣΙΣ but, to me, the blame falls squarely on their shoulders.

WOW! I wasn't expecting to have a political conversation about Cyprus when I woke up this morning hahahahaha
SW-User
@room101 Hahaha none of us did.

You are right but I can't blame them. People tend to "lose their temper" when none of their actions is being taken seriously. They needed drastic measures, ways to be heard. And it all failed...
