Today I was literally forced into a corner and told off and belittled by a male colleague for doing the same thing he had done a few hours earlier

Because I'm a lower pay grade, he gets to do this. Welcome to the world of nursing! 馃槓馃槩

What did you do that he had done?

@katielass he left someone sitting in shit to go on his break. I left someone on the toilet, with a way of contacting staff and I let other people know where he was. The guy who shouted at me ended up having to clean the man up and was angry because he feels it's below him to touch a patient.

@Starsandfire ok, gotcha. That's not so terrible. But you never allow a patient to sit in their own waste. Sick people's skin is more fragile and prone to breakdown.

@katielass I know, he shouldn't have done it. Maybe I should have yelled at him when he got back from his break 馃槀

@Starsandfire Stooping to his level doesn't accomplish anything. I can pretty well guarantee you all the others knew the real reason he was angry. And this will happen again. Is your super someone you feel you can go to and ask how she wants this to be handled? When I was nursing we had a policy of keeping on the break/lunch schedule and that meant you had a particular nurse you told you were leaving and she, or he, was responsible for your patients while you were gone. Maybe something like that would work in your unit.

@katielass yes our managers assign us breaks and are very adamant we go on time. My manager said there wasn't much she could do. This happens again and again, it's unfair, but it's the norm really. Nurses are vicious. 馃槀

@Starsandfire They can be. But cheer up, it will get better, I promise. :)

@katielass when I leave! Haha thanks

@Starsandfire We all know that nurses eat their own but I hope this experience will help you be kinder to new nurses in the future. It made me a kinder one.
Starsandfire31-35, F
@katielass I try to always be kind :)
katielassF
@Starsandfire excellent. :)

@Starsandfire Still report it to the boss.
Starsandfire31-35, F
@bhatjc I did, she can't do much apparently because he works in another hospital
bhatjc46-50, M
@Starsandfire Then why is he in your hospital. Still report to HR.
