How/why is preserving symbols of the oppression of an entire race of people important?

The monuments are memorials to our Heritage and in memory of heroes lost. They aren't monuments to oppression.

@SW-User The north didn't care about blacks. They went to war to keep the Southern States. Most northerners didn't want blacks living in the north. They had planned to send them back to Africa.

@SW-User The war wasn't about slavery. It was about States rights. Slavery was legal and practiced by Washington, Jefferson and many others.
