hi cherokeepatti
Say can I tel you something. They say yes what is it and you say thank you. There that is how to do it properly. You habve to stop their world so they notice. This stopping is key to all significance otherwise it just goes with the flow and people never notice anything.
Best wishes

@sogdianrock Two of my parakeets have learned to say thank you and it touches my heart, seriously. The youngest one says "Thank You" repeatedly when they wake up after sun rise and the temperatures are cool in the morning.

Sorry to disabuse you but your parrots are parroting. They have no idea what they are saying. They may as well make the sound of a chainsaw - which they don in rain forests which are constantly being cut down. Mimicry is wonderful but it is not talking.

@sogdianrock No they are not. They even ask me questions during appropriate times, and I answer them which motivates them to ask more questions. I came home yesterday and did some chores and then told them I was going somewhere. Left for a couple hours and came home, went to the sun room and told them I was back home and one asked me slowly "Where have you been?"...this stuff happens daily with my birds. They seem to have the intelligence of a 4-5 year old.

hi cherokeepatti
You are then quite potty. No disrespect.
Or you have magical parrots.
Personally I favour the potty hypothesis but I shall consult my butterflies. They agree with me.

@sogdianrock I think you've never had birds or interacted with them in that case. I have witnesses who've also heard these birds. They can mimic but when they learn that words have meanings they use it to communicate, in the same way children do. Something I learned about babies when I had my own, don't just sit around making goo-goo noises at them, use real words and show them what it means. My daughter was speaking sentences before she was a year old.

hi cherokeepatti
I take it all back. I have reviewed the evidence and now consider myself wiser. Thank you for being so constructive. I seem to have the intelligence of a 4-5 year old.

@sogdianrock Oh, don't get me wrong. I don't blame you for not believing me. I love to brag on these birds but seriously they can talk, ask questions etc. if you spend time with them and devote some of your attention to them. I've had female parakeets asking me what I was eating, cooking, drinking or fixing. And one asked me "What are you cooking now?" after I started frying something in a skillet and then put something in the microwave to reheat....you'd be amazed if you could see them on a daily basis and how much they learn. (My female parakeet's cage was sitting near the kitchen in a tall cage where she could see and watch me. She'd usually sit facing the kitchen and her mate would sit facing the TV, he liked to watch movies with men in them, Westerns, Cops, Crime shows, etc. and would repeat some the phrases he heard)

No I was not being funny with you I remembered various bird experiences including a jackdaw which was clever and flew around the house when you changed rooms.

@sogdianrock I've befriended a wild crow and a wild bluejay...they are fun to make friends with.

I admire you hugely for doing so. I was not thinking straight.
