@alan20 My grandmother was beaten daily by her moron husband...there was no protection for women then...she had 7 babies she was left alone to raise. The two generations after that were quite dysfunctional...my mother who witnessed the violence against her mother who died at 41 from a cerebral hemorrhage...was also violent...one person can ruin the lives of generations after them

@Fernie That's really grim. Sorry to hear about it. My grandmother actually played a leading role in the struggle for Irish independence but, admittedly in a different way, that was no picnic either. At least her husband shared in the misery.
