I Love A Good Road Trip
The road trip I remember
from many years ago
took me to Lake Turkana
and yes the drive was slow.
No tarmac, maps or road signs
to put the miles beneath those wheels,
just desert, rocks and well worn lines,
stretched out to distant hills.
We bumped along quite dustily,
hot days of misadventure.
Long days evolving lustily
no stopping for conjecture.
Landscapes like moonscapes pass us by.
Boulders big as busses.
Explorers’ miles leave us high,
ruts and potholes raise our cusses.
Wildlife round the lakesides.
Crocs, Lions things to eat us.
You close now by my slide,
“Quick pass the Hippopotamus”
Watch the sunset - avoid baboons,
see the Ostrich run
Driving sInging favourite tunes.
Wow did we have fun.
For today”s @ChampagneOnIce 5 min writing challenge and Shannon wherever you are now 😊
