I experienced the worst of someone today.
They tried to play the victim card in front of an audience with me as one of the villains.
I was planning on staying in the backseat of the conversation until that tone was presented. They puffed their chest out, had an authoritative tone, and spread their side of the story like it was the only gospel written.
I was planning on staying in the backseat…until it was made clear that I needed to grab a hold of the wheel and drive this bitch out of the land of make believe.
Truths were revealed. Truths that I could tell were never heard by the two other people on the call. Truths that I could tell contradicted what was being presented by someone who was suddenly a victim in our current situation. Truths that brought a hush that could heard from here to San Francisco where the call was made from.
Today did not bring the outcome we hoped for, but it did bring one of the outcomes that I knew could come…and I was okay with that. I was prepared for it because even though I am a dreamer, I’m a realist first and foremost.
What I wasn’t prepared for was the tone with which I was spoken to. The language with which was directed to me. And the holier than thou presentation that was put on for what was the performance of a lifetime. And yet, I was calm. Clear. Concise. Undeniable in the facts presented. None of which brought about a change of events…which I was fine with because I wasn’t correcting her for that purpose. I just simply refused to accept the story that was being spun as she had an audience in attendance, hoping to see how much of a victim she was so she’d appear more justified for her decision.
As calm as I presented myself, my blood boiled under the surface.
Yesterday I made plans for leaving after the call because I already knew it was going to be a thing, but the need to get out of my life for a moment was even greater.
…I needed to leave.
To decompress.
To breathe through the hatred.
Disgust.
Disappointment in another human being.
And I needed to do it alone.
But my oldest, who caught the last half of the call, refused to let me leave by myself. He already changed his clothes and got his favorite ball cap on…and didn’t care about the warning that I would not be rushed in getting back, that I would need to be the one who drove, that I wouldn’t discuss the phone call any further, and that I would not be pleasant for a while. He simply said…
“Lead the way.”
His company today. It meant the world to me. I don’t know what kind of headspace I would’ve been in if he hadn’t of been the passenger princess and kept it lighthearted and made me laugh so much. We stayed out so late that we drove home in the dark and ate dinner in the car.
…and as I’m writing this…
I love that kid.
But anyway, as the day started to come to a close I was given another gift of beauty that I couldn’t let pass me by. A nice little bow on the day that encompassed…a lot…and won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
