My trips by train are rare, but yes, I always try to have a window seat.
The longest journeys I have made involve three separate trains.
The first and third uses types having well-spaced seats and large windows. Their maximum speed, by machine and by track speed-limits, is only 70mph.
The class used on the longest, central section has shorter windows between wide pillars, and closely-set, high-backed seats more like those on an aircraft. So even if you manage a window-seat on them, your view can be very restricted if you are trying to look forwards more than sideways. (Staring fully sideways at scenery flashing by at these trains' 90 to 100+ mph cruising speed is not good!)
