After discovering humans are a more cantankerous bunch than initially anticipated, and not nearly as harmless as advertised, they shrewdly decided to run their next simulation by carefully placing padded helmets on our heads and putting us in stasis bio-beds for our own protection.

Instead, their entire adventure takes place inside of a simulation that is outside of another simulation that is being carefully monitored by vast, hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings protruding into our universe in the from of mice.
