Why do some people send gifts here marked as private?

If It's marked public, would presidents of the world start wearing tutus and dance the ballet?

In the past, some people were jealous of others receiving gifts and sent nastygrams. Others wanted to keep their message private for other reasons. I'm not sure about today.
