I Love the Open Road

Heading out on the road in the morning for a two-week driving trip. Destination is somewhere in the Southwest, but there's no particular itinerary.

Avoid Albuquerque, or at least downtown. Good place to get your car stolen and meet a bunch of angry tweakers. Hookers, at night.

@GlitterBug I'll probably just drive straight through Albuquerque. Thanks for the travel tip.

Probably a good idea for Santa Fe too actually. @glad18

I was planning on hitting Santa Fe. Any reason why I shouldn't? And where would you recommend?

Just car theft, not nearly as bad as abq though. Meow Wolf in Santa Fe is pretty neat, it’s an interactive museum of sorts. What are you interested in? @glad18

Mostly what's appealing to the eye. I plan to take a lot of photos, primarily landscapes I suppose, so likely won't spend much time in the cities.

When you go by abq you’ll see the Sandia mountains. If you get there in early spring they should still have snow at the top. (Careful if you’re gonna get there soon, expecting heavy snow) At sunset they turn a nice shade of red or pink, thus ‘sandia’, Spanish for watermelon. It makes for nice pictures. @glad18

Es verdad! Sandia does mean watermelon, doesn't it. I'd have loved to have seen them tonight with the full moon above.
