I disagree, for Front Wheel Drive cars, a lot of the braking gets done by the Front Tires + Steering. It's the weight of the engine over the wheels.
Rear Wheel drive, I think it's debateable which should be better.
I usually make sure I rotate my tires and replace all 4 at the same time.
