Why do the French have a reputation for being rude? Is this unjustified?

I wonder what rep we Brits have, well I know in some resorts we are regarded very badly and with reason.

It's a reputation but not all french people are like that.
Most of us are friendly with strangers

I have heard people say they were warmly welcomed and found people really friendly, more so than here at home.
