Traveling to certain countries can be risky
I am an intersex and pansexual woman. Certain countries I would like to see it is illegal to be queer. I could just keep it to myself and then I would face no problems. Other countries it’s legal but often locals have violent reactions to queer people. While a country doesn’t have to be affirming it does have at least to be tolerant. Even in parts of the United States there are no protections for queer people and you can be denied service in public businesses, housing, education, employment, healthcare, etc. granted I could just avoid any trouble if I keep it to myself which is true but if I was out and about with a girlfriend it would suck to be discriminated against. Yes discrimination does happen in places with laws and protections for queer people too. Unfortunately it’s not always enough to rely on toleration and goodwill. While people don’t have to agree with being queer, they need to respect people’s differences and tolerate them even they think it’s wrong or weird or even disgusting.
