That couldn't be less true. You can fly to ireland, Amsterdam, and paris for under 200 dollars. Once in europe it's cheap to travel between countries flights are almost nothing and the rails are scenic and worth tbe extra cost and time. You just have to do the things that drive you and make it happen

I wish i had money to travel too maybe some day
LooseyGoosey · 26-30, F
Being from the UK, even though we left the EU, it’s still so easy and so cheap to go to somewhere like Spain, Portugal, Greece etc. I can get to any of these places in the next 5 hours and it costs less than $150/$200 to get there. Even less if it’s out of season.
It’s a shame it’s not more accessible to you :(

@LooseyGoosey that blows my mind. It would cost me thousands just to fly somewhere and stay a few days in my own country. I don't think I could ever save enough money to get outside of the US. It makes me sad. I feel trapped lol
LooseyGoosey · 26-30, F
@EldritchFox damn it :(( we’ll smuggle you out :(

Yes they do ...when I lived in the uk I took buses and trains ...their public transportation system is much better than US ...people still complain about it there
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
@Aquaabyss I'm kinda jealous how non americans can get around. I can't even get to the next town unless I pay $40 for an Uber. Nothing here is conducive to enjoying life unless you're super wealthy.
I've been flirting with the idea of leaving the US for awhile. Tbh it's just boring and prison like. Work, pay bills, step on people if you want to get ahead.

@EldritchFox I wish I could leave too ...if I could I'd go back to uk it's just not realistic at this point abd time

we have some nearby destinations but they may seem less appealing than say Monaco

Driving into Canada can be done on a budget. Go to Quebec Province for a taste of the exotic on a budget (though cities are expensive like anywhere).

Probably true within the EU since "international travel" is basically like interstate travel in the US, distance-wise and the EU just has a lot more beautiful places. And they have good high-speed rail lines and stuff.
But you have a biased perspective because you're only seeing people from other countries if they're either in the US or are big on English-speaking social media, both of which are going to be biased in favor of the most cultured, hypermobile people. The actual average person in the world is like, a subsistence farmer in India or something, but you basically never see them online.

@BlueVeins We have plenty of beautiful places away from resorts, but it IS fun to experience the different variety that other lands have...
BlueVeins · 26-30
@Neoerectus The fact that the US is choked with traffic 24/7 and that's the only way to get to most places is definitely a massive debuff.
Neoerectus · M
@BlueVeins Drive the western states outside the big cities. ALOT of empty spaces.
In rural southern France last year it was still a bit crowded on the HWYs. Not packed, but busy.

I was no where near wealthy when I travelled to Canada, but I didn't have to pay for lodging, which really obviously helped. If you have international friends, that could help
What is cheap for some is expensive for others.
EldritchFox · 41-45, F
@EarthlingWise very true. I know there are places people aren't able to travel.
SinlessOnslaught · M
At this point I'm just envious of anyone who doesn't live here.

Geography - the answer is mostly in geography. Those who live, for instance, in Europe can travel to a half dozen different countries in a couple of hours and can do it by car, train of plane. And so it goes for a large part of the world.
Here in the U.S. it can easily take a couple of hours 9or more) just to get to a train station or international airport... never mind that trains can only get you to Canada or Mexico, and the flight time to Europe to Asia is long. Long, and that means many miles distant therefore expensive.
On the other hand, we can get in a car and travel for days and days (or weeks) and explore vast stretches filled with a biodiversity, cultures, customs and habits found in few nations.

I am not sure. I can't really know, but a quick check with Kiwi.com showed me that you can find cheap flights. If you go to the South East Asia, where you can still find at places cheap accommodation and food, it should be possible.
