When you are travelling you learn how to be circumspect with money
Breakfast is the most important meal as a start to the day to rekindle the energy machine. It is only ever a coffee, and because I’m in Amsterdam, a pastry. Good sugar boost for the system, after a little exercise. In a city you can go for a run or a brisk walk after you have done some exercise on getting out of bed.
You can then go through until three in the afternoon before you replenish your energy again, with a little protein and some vegetables. I don’t eat much starch in the afternoon if I can help it. In the Winter months and early Spring a potato is necessary for warmth.
I’m very frugal with my costs. I drink bottled water most of the day as it is best for flushing the kidneys and giving your liver a little fluid to utilise. I do have dark chocolate with me, not just for the enzyme that helps a woman out but others for the metabolism.
I only buy clothes to replace those which have a little irreparable damage, like lingerie. You can mend a bra but knickers need to be fully usable. I’m more likely to replace rather than restore. Jeans can be repaired. They are the safest thing to wear when travelling offering warmth and some protection. They are also a larger item of clothing so they take up room in a suitcase.
Personal security is a prerequisite for any girl travelling alone, attack alarms are good, but so is a small body spray in your pocket to use as mace or pepper spray. It’s legal to be carrying it and with using the trains rather than airplanes means you won’t be checked with it.
I’m going to Paris tomorrow, using Eurostar means it’s just over three hours journey time. The fact that you are not on transport for long periods means you can feel pretty safe too. I always get into a train coach with plenty of people around. Eurostar allocated seats are not problematic.
I’m hoping to make a shorter trip to Paris. It’s not a safe city to be alone in. My being blonde is like a red rag to a bull (🐂 as the English saying goes, learned that in Spain)! I need to wear a beanie if I can to blend in a little. I think I’m safe using a taxi 🚕 in the city, but that is only while I am dragging suitcases. Otherwise public buses and trams are best.
I do my utmost to stay safe and not to spend much money if I can help it!
