Out of hs, I wanted to make and start for a D1 wrestling program ✔

In my late 50’s I trained to fight in a full contact black belt karate tournament ✔

I’m now training in Kali with the hopes of fighting for/at a “Gathering” of the Dog Brothers. It’s very much like a Fight Club scene only there’s a 28” hardened rattan stick involved that’s your weapon. The participants are both seriously talented and half crazy. It’s really the best if the best imho.

I won one fight a little over a year ago. I’ve got another on June 28th. We’ll see how that goes. I’ve been in this path for over two years and still feel like I’ve got at least another year to go. Now, it’s becoming a race against time.

I’m 65.

@Adogslife Congratulations! I wish you all the best. 🙂

@Adogslife Nice! Keep doing what you're doing. You've got this, and I'd say definitely more than a year if you want it. Good luck on the 28th - bring home a victory! 💪

@Adogslife That's doing well for you age which I was pondering the whole read.

@Gibbon Ty. I’m in pretty good shape for someone half my age. I workout every single morning, hard, for at least 30 minutes. I try to get that heartbeat above 140bpm and keep it there (as an average) for the entire workout.

Today, I think, is day 1,297 without missing a single day - even through two bouts of Covid.
Anyone can do it. The key is just start and don’t quit for the first 30 days. It only takes about three weeks to form a good habit…

@Adogslife I've been sedentary since the pandemic, the loss of my Vickie and a miraculous 2 week stroke recovery. I'm slowly working my legs because I can't do squats so pushing up without something for my arms to pull on doesn't happen. So I bought a set of exercise bands and use the strongest ones, 120 and 170 lbs max to emulate squat motions in my recliner. I then go the kitchen counter and squat until my legs and calfs tighten hold for a few seconds and push up.
But I don't have what you pointed out. A workout daily routine. These bands are tough work I just need to pick a time and do them twice a day. The kitchen counter is my test. When I can my ass to my heals I'll claim success. I'm 71

@LadyBronte Ty my friend 🙏🏻. I’ve got two training sessions left, one today and one next Tuesday. Then it’s show time. My cardio is set already. The rest is just nerves tbh.

@Musicman Thank you! All moral support is appreciated 😊

@Gibbon It sounds to me like you’re doing well. Allow yourself the credit for doing what you’re doing when most would quit. 💪🏻

Have you asked a good trainer what exercises are appropriate for your personal conditioning? That’s really important too. So are diet and mental health.

@Adogslife Awesome! Good luck! Youll do well if you dont get too caught up in your nerves.

@Adogslife No trainer just reading. Only concerned with getting calf and leg strength back.
Diet? I'm diabetic from chemo damaging my pancreas 24 years ago. I lost my taste then . It slowly returned than illness took it away again 4 to 5 years ago. I'm a lightweight and what I'm doing to get my calories would drive a nutritionist insane lol but with my insulin my A1C has remained in control and my doctor is fine with it as long as I keep my protein and calories up. I'll only say Boost very high calorie glucose drinks have been my savior since eating whole foods is an unenjoyable chore.
