I have seen a Morris side dance in the rain - their sense of humour extending to using umbrellas rather than staves, though not clashing them. More worrying for them was that they were dancing on grass, potentially very slippery when wet.
I think a lot of morris-danders like to kid on the origins are pagan etc., but privately admit there is no historical evidence that it was ever intended as any more than entertainment.
