@fernie2 Yes indeed, no joke. Or stuff to get tangled in. There's also riptides, and undertow, etc.
I've always maintained that pools are for swimming. Leave the unforgiving sea for commerce or travel, if you must.
Any spring break trips we took, the guys would yell for me to wade to hip depth. I barely got my ankles wet. Then sat on the sand laughing as they raced inshore from a tidal wave of jellyfish. We were in Myrtle Beach, and then FL, which gets the random shark.
@SethGreene531 I'd be sitting right beside you! I'm like those old Italian wimmin I watched as a kid...in their black bathing suits with the skirt, standing at the waters edge, bent over and scooping up water to rub on their arms, etc. I lived on a big pond once. I swam in it now and then until I saw a HUGE snapping turtle that brought Jurassic Park to mind. After that I never swam there again.
@fernie2 😄 Did they ever! I hated that the most. Coming out of the changing hut, I'd strut proudly down over the sand in my red horizontal stripes to the ankle.
Bathers would titter and laugh, but I paid them no mind. Quite comfortable in my own skin, I was there to enjoy the sun and surf. Never mind that it was 2006, I was a proud renaissance man.
That was, till I waded out beyond my waist, a hole in the knee had my bathing costume soggy and water logged; and I sank to the bottom like sponge bob.🙄😞
