Do you prefer vacations that are more active or just simply laid back?

I usually do both in one trip.
5-7days at the beach, doing nothing but eat and relax and swim.
And the following week spent on a plane or train hopping to diff cities.

@CookieCrumbs It's been a long time since I had all that vacation time at once! Awesome! I'm hoping to take two-weeks off together for a vacation next year. Can't wait!
@ChampagneOnIce
Same here. This is too long for me to be stuck at home. I usually go on 2 trips a year. One in Asia and Europe. Can’t wait for 2022.

Where are you planning to go? :)
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@CookieCrumbs I used to travel all the time for work, and I'd take a few days vacation if I was in a destination I wanted to savor.

We have a trip to Europe planned next year. We were supposed to go this year, but we moved it to 2022. France, Spain, and Italy - first week on land, then a 7-night Mediterranean cruise.

I haven't been to Asia, yet, but we have a bucket-list item to visit all the Disney theme parks, so we'll get there eventually. 😄
@ChampagneOnIce
That’s a great itinerary. I was booked last year, with tickets and all to Seville then Morocco. ☹️ That would have to wait ….

@CookieCrumbs That sounds wonderful. I'd love to visit Morocco. Very exotic.
@ChampagneOnIce
Spain and Morocco are going to be gastronomic delights 😋
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@CookieCrumbs Definitely! I've only been to Morocco at EPCOT, but I love the food. 😄
@ChampagneOnIce
Try a train-hopping vacation, if you don’t mind packing every few days and catching the first train out. It’s a fun experience for us in North America. We did that in Italy, from Rome-Florence-Venice. Them fly out of Venice to Lisbon to get my dose of swimming.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@CookieCrumbs I'd love to travel on the Orient Express - bucket-list item for sure! I love traveling by train. Planning to take the train from Paris to Barcelona next year.
@ChampagneOnIce
WOW! That's going to be fun.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@CookieCrumbs 🤞🤞🤞 :) I've been planning the trip for two years! I need a vacation!! Where's your next vacation? Are you going anywhere before Spain and Morocco?
@ChampagneOnIce
If I don't change my mind this year, I would do a local trip to explore Vancouver and Vancouver Islands. I won't be doing any international trips until the whole world is OK with the pandemic.

I have a Myanmar-Cambodia-Singapore planned for Asia. When that happens, who knows....LOL
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@CookieCrumbs I understand. The pandemic has been awful in so many ways. I try to be optimistic, but the world has changed.

We have a trip to the Caribbean planned in the fall. I'm looking forward to it but also feel a bit apprehensive.
@ChampagneOnIce
I don't want to continue living in fear, and I want to move on with our lives. But government regulations change. The effectiveness of vaccines is still untested for new variants that could possibly develop. I'm glad i did not take a chance with a mixed vaccine. Even that is causing stress to people who booked cruises from the US.

I don't like that there are so many unknowns. For now, il remain an armchair traveller with my travel books. 😅 I've seen enough, travelled and experienced many things. I can stay here and wait for things to calm down.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@CookieCrumbs You're lucky to have been all the places you've been!

I'm glad I got vaccinated. I trust the science of it and my friends and family in the healthcare field. The majority of cases and hospitalizations in the US right now are those who are unvaccinated. There will continue to be new variants and/or diseases. The Earth is angry. Humans are such a virus to this planet!
@ChampagneOnIce
I trust the science and that's why I had no hesitation with the choice. I just want to get my normal life back. I am just apprehensive to travel because of the hassle of being in another country during this time.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@CookieCrumbs Traveling is definitely difficult right now! I feel for the industry, though. I have a friend who works for a major airline, and he's told me how insane it is right now.
@ChampagneOnIce
It is difficult for many. I know someone who is 3years to retirement. She opted to take an early retirement package.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@CookieCrumbs My husband's company offered that to many employees as well. He has the years with the company, but he wasn't old enough to take the package (nor did he want to). We got takeout from our favorite local places during the pandemic to keep them going. Fortunately, they survived, thanks to local support. It's been an experience for sure. I'm hopeful for the light at the end of the tunnel.
@ChampagneOnIce
We were doing the same during the lockdown. The travel food money set aside for 2020, we used it to order food on weekends. Different country every weekend 😁 We have a lot of those small restos around where I live.

It was tough for those in the service industry.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
@CookieCrumbs Yep, exactly. We did the same. :)

It really was. I'm very grateful to have the job I do.
