I suppose it depends on the definition of "Best" The most enjoyable and relaxed was 6 or 7 weeks driving from Brisbane to Far north queensland and stopping each day at a five star resort for a few days and exploring the local area. Ferry trips out the the Whitsunday Islands and such. Really taking our time. After staying in Port Douglas a week and then heading up into the Daintree forest we drove back to cairns and took a flight home.
The most luxurious was a week in Dubai with everything laid on for the group. ( I was part of a performance award event) Dune bashing in 4WDs, dinner in the desert, Lawrence of Arabia style, complete with Belly dancers and falconry demonstration. tours of the sights and markets, trips to the worlds biggest shopping mall and the tallest building and a beachside 5 star resort.. All on someone elses dime. The flight there and back was coach. But you cant have everything.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman That sounds amazing.

@windinhishair Which one? Each was brilliant in its own way. One was totally relaxed, self paced and unbudgetted. The other was top flight, and while not exhausting, there was always something happening. But I did see enough of Dubai to tick it off the bucket list and it cost me nothing to do things that were not "tourist" jaunts.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman Both, but Australia would be my clear choice. I'm not one for luxury.

@windinhishair I tend to agree. We "learned" the Queensland East coast and would love to do it again. 😷
@whowasthatmaskedman Good idea - maybe stay close to home

@whowasthatmaskedman I have considered taking the Ghan from Adelaide to Darwin. I would also enjoy traveling in the Outback. I've spent considerable time in the deserts of the southwest US on foot and would really enjoy similar underappreciated areas of Australia.

@windinhishair I have looked at The Ghan and Indian pacific and like the train idea as a way to see things. BUT. Its horrendously expensive compared to the US long distance trains and Unlike America, Australia ia almost empty once you get away from the coast. Imagine 3000 miles of Nevada with hardly any towns..😷

@MarmeeMarch Yes.. Maybe after we score some Vaccine as well.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman I'm very comfortable with places like that, where very few people live. Some of my backpacking trips in the US have been to areas over 100 miles from the nearest hospital. In my book, empty is good. I'm also used to carrying all my water on my back, so I can get to places that few people can access. I would like an area like 3000 miles of Nevada with few towns.

@windinhishair Then you will love the Western 2/3 of the continent.😷

@whowasthatmaskedman There is no doubt about that. I wouldn't mind starting at Perth and driving around the coast until I can access the interior.

@windinhishair Nice! Two options, Drive East to Adelaide, or North up the West coast all the way to Sarwin. Both Are safe drives providing you have a decent car and carry a phone and water. But stick close to the highway. 😷
