Anywhere there is a nice beach that isn't overcrowded.

Amazing how the nicest beaches attract the biggest crowds :( Even the not-as-nice beaches can gather some pretty big crowds. It takes a bit of looking, but there are some pretty nice seaside communities that aren't big vacation spots.

@Heartlander We go to a beach almost every year that is in a mostly residential area. It's not a tourist trap at all and it's only 2 hours from home. I am really looking forward to spending a few days there. Social distancing should not be a problem. 🙂
I do agree with you though about most of the crowded beaches. I don't really understand the appeal at all. It's not a vacation to me if I am fighting crowds, even if it isn't during a pandemic.

@Peapod I grew up within a stone's throw of the gulf coast but somehow found myself living smack in the middle of the US with the nearest seashores 500+ miles away :(
But we do try to make it to the beaches at least every year. Over the past few summers we were able to get to South Padre, Galveston and the Alabama/Florida panhandle areas. All super crowded to the point of being uncomfortably so, and like "this wasn't a very good idea" :)
I remember South Padre was so crowded with sun-screened bodies that when I jumped into the hotel pool I felt like an oil dip stick :)
On the other hand, we did find the more laid back, beach-community type places on the north end of Padre and along the west side of Mobile Bay, the areas that vacationers drive past on their way to Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, etc.

@Heartlander The only beach I ever was at in the Gulf was Sanibel Island, just off the coast of Fort Meyers Florida. I loved it there.
We go to one of the less crowded beaches in NJ.

@Peapod Most of the Florida Gulf side beaches are wonderful. In another life I had the chance to spend an occasional week near Fort Walton Beach during the non summer seasons and loved it.
In yet another life we lived in NYC for a short period and did venture to Asbury Park and cruise the New Jersey beaches, even considered moving to that area. Also Far Rockaway on the other side of the city. As I remember, the city crowd abandoned the beaches there after the Labor Day weekend and we had the place nearly to ourselves.
