In the USA what is the best way to travel reasonably long distances excluding driving a car?

I usually prefer trains in Europe.

I've heard the Greyhound bus system is great

@metaldog No. it was by far the most interesting and worst experience of my life.

Traveling from Wisconsin to Washington State nearly got me stabbed. I was also violently ill for two days after.

@metaldog I heard thats a cheap way to travel with plenty of stops, you just have to be weary of where it stops apparently

@SW-User yes I heard it can be a little dodgy

@SW-User oh really, that's how I was going to travel around lol

@thenightwatchman I thought it would be a nice way to see the country

@metaldog I'm still thinking it might not be a bad idea, looks like they can get you to a lot of places trains can't. And I am traveling alone so could be an adventure.
But just like anywhere if you are getting dropped off in an area at night in city you don't know shit can happen. I think that goes for wherever you are in the world

@thenightwatchman @metaldog It's best to plan your cities and then look at the transportation options. Greyhound might not be the only option.

There's Megabus for most of the country and then we have regional options.

If you're traveling the expanse (east/west) of the united states... I recommend flying (or train). Check out Southwest Airlines. They don't show up in Google Flights but they hit a lot of cities in the United States. There might be a few other regional options.

@SW-User thanks. I am still in the process of planning my trip. So far the cities on my list are New York, Boston and New Orleans. Already looked into flights to Louisiana and it's actually cheaper to travel from the UK to new York then get a return flight to new Orleans than going from the UK to new Orleans. For Boston I am still looking into transport and there are a few small town I want to visit too

@thenightwatchman you could fly to DC which is also a big hub then take a cheap bus to New York.

@SW-User I hadn't actually thought of DC

The Smithsonian museums are all free.

Mt Vernon is really interesting because George Washington and his character helped shaped the nation.

New York and New Orleans will obviously get you two distinct cultures of America.

San Francisico would be another great city.

@SW-User thanks Megabus is worth looking into...I don't want to fly and miss out on the scenery 🙂
