How did those people die when the ramp collapsed in Sapelo Island?

Did they drown? Were the waters so cold that they died of hypothermia? I read about it last night and this morning and didn't see how it happened? I looked at the pictures and just couldn't imagine how seven people could tragically die from this incident.
