in many places strippers DO try to excel creatively. such performers often call themselves Burlesque . but far and away, in terms of number, most strippers as just trying to earn, they do not need to be artistic,, just naked and posing.
so can stripping be an art? yes
but many are just a display
and the practitioners of Raqs sharqi, as it is known in Egyptian Arabic,, in the west do tend to be an artful dance form, yet in the near east they are not seen so different as strippers, and are frankly not socially acceptable
but there are many forms,, and in the countries where some of these originate? they practice ancient ones.. again more artistic

there is little respect
