Don't you just take it when the so called "experts" don't have a clue what you're talking about?

I've had this issue plenty of times with support numbers like AT&T, Verizon, etc. but generally I can do a little research a figure it out myself. Sony has on their support site for playstation how to replace your HDD and exactly what you're suppose to do. I followed the instructions to the letter. Still not working, it will not recognize the update file. I called them today, got a very sweet lady (not her fault they didn't train her) that had little to no idea what I was talking about. Why is she not trained on this? She even said there aren't any people that would know what to do. She emailed someone else about the issue and there solution was to send it in for servicing which will cost me $100 and atleast a month of waiting, no guarantee they can fix it, no guarantee I'll even get mine back because last time I did this I got a PS3 that was scratched to hell.

Generally speaking, support is generally farmed out to support centers in India, Pakistan, Egypt...

They pay these folks next to nothing, so don't expect to get well trained folks. The latter have better paying jobs (but still paid less than their Western counterparts).
