ANDROID Question: Can we no longer move photos from the phone to the SD card FROM THE PHONE?

Also, I've moved my photos to google, in order to free up space.
I want the photos gone from the phone, but If I delete a photo from my phone, it ALSO deletes it from GOOGLE PHOTOS (online backup), which I do not want it to do.

I WANT:
photos off my phone, and only in google photos (online/in the cloud)

I move photos from my phone to my laptop and then to a thumbdrive or SD card. I don't save much on my phone and don't ever use the cloud.

@bowman81 I've experienced thumbs drives which stopped working, and corrupted SD cards, which means I've lost several pics..I'll figure somethings out
Upload them in drive instead of Photos.

And check the bin in the cloud. They should be there for atleast 30 days

@getgoodfeeling I backed up photos which are on my phone, to google photos/the cloud. I did this to free up space on my phone. I want the photos off my phone.
@iamnikki google photos are linked with your android account. So if you delete them in the gallery, they get deleted in the cloud as well. Either use a different account or upload them to google drive.

I always take them off my phone and back them up to a HD via the USB cable. Perhaps that might work for you?
