yep i think so ..

I think i might 3D print my next gun .. a 45. modeled on the 1911 style .

You could conceivably print the parts for a 1911 but you'll still have finish the parts and assemble the gun. Also, you'd need a metal receiver/barrel, a firing pin and a few springs. It's far less trouble and far more efficient to simply buy a used metal gun.

There isn't one, somebody wanted to see if it could be done...
These plans have been floating around for years..
It's an exaggerated issue..

@SW-User 3D printing service leader solid concepts has manufactured the world’s first 3D printed metal gun using a laser sintering process and powdered metals. the semi-automatic pistol is based off the design of a classic 1911 and has already successfully fired over 50 rounds of bullets without breaking. the fire-weapon is constructed with 33 17-4 stainless steel and inconel 625 components, and features a carbon-fiber filled nylon hand grip.

‘the whole concept of using a selective laser sintering process to 3D print a metal gun revolves around proving the reliability, accuracy and usability of metal 3D printing as functional prototypes and end use products,‘ says kent firestone, vice president of additive manufacturing at solid concepts. ‘it’s a common misconception that 3D Printing isn’t accurate or strong enough, and we’re working to change people’s perspective.’

I don't think it's possible to print that gun as a working firearm..
