A Starboard Tack

I'm on a very familiar starboard tack right now bearing 225° out of Lewis Bay at 41.6° North, 70.28° West.

Today's my last day on the boat this year. She's being hauled tomorrow for the season. It's a bit depressing, as it is each year. This is my true home, my world. I am and always have been of the sea. She is in me and I am of her. And it is in her cool embrace that I always feel most at home.

It's about 62°F right now (17°C) with almost overcast skies, some sun peeking through. The forecast includes some passing showers, but nothing major. Winds are out of the southeast at about 9 knots. Seas are choppy with white caps as far as the eye can see.

I'll be on and off SW today, but know that I am home and at peace with the world in the loving embrace of the sea. 😌

I have a boat with twins and my starboard engine is broke its in dry dock. And we have to fix it. So when u say starboard tack. Or track

@496sbc "Starboard track" makes no sense to my understanding. A vessel's "track" is relative to the points of the compass. Hence above, my heading or track was 225° or west-southwest.

"Starboard Tack" refers to the boat's direction relative to the wind. Coming out of Lewis Bay I was on a starboard tack, but as I turned down wind and headed for Martha's vineyard I was on more of a broad reach. These are, of course, sailing terms. It's your boat powered by sail or by the dirty twin engines? 🤣

@496sbc Okay, just looked it up. Yours is a power boat. I could never go that way.

I've been to Florida and back from Cape Cod. Guess how much I spent on fuel??
