Swimming strokes.....

Breast stroke... i get.. its a relaxed style easy on the energy and brill underwater... Front crawl... yep... fast and efficient.. back stroke... ok ..yes easy to breath and restful.... butterfly.... nope i just don't get it...why is butterfly a swimming stroke...?
