Being caned was an unpleasant experience,most people I talk with who were caned believe it helped keep them well behaved and work hard ,

In my childhood time, CPs were an efficient method to bring a student on the right track and a serious deterrent for the other pupils of the class. I doubt the 'new' methods (detention, lines, etc.) work the same. The students are less educated, disrespectful and even agressive towards their teachers. For misbehaviour or not learning my lessons, I got the wooden ruler, the switch in front of the whole class, even I was a top student. A bad raport could bring me another spanking at home. And they all were useful to me.

@dunpender Should I understand that those states in USA where CPs are allowed belong to a barbaric world? Or the Asian countries are uncivilized? OK, I hope one day Scotland will be free and released from the English neo-nazism. As for CPs, I strongly believe that if not abuse, it would be useful for keeping a tight hand over the juvenile crimes.

@dunpender; Civilised countries? UK is a non-European country now, like Botswana or Bangladesh, with hundreds of daily crimes. You should not repeat the same refrain as long as you left the European civilised countries.
