I Am Listening To This Youtube Music Video Right Now

[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=488c04U714o]

Well I hope that I don't fall in love with you
'Cause falling in love just makes me blue,
Well the music plays and you display your heart for me to see,
I had a beer and now I hear you calling out for me
And I hope that I don't fall in love with you.

Well the room is crowded, people everywhere
And I wonder, should I offer you a chair?
Well if you sit down with this old clown, take that frown and break it,
Before the evening's gone away, I think that we could make it,
And I hope that I don't fall in love with you.

Well the night does funny things inside a man
These old tom-cat feelings you don't understand,
Well I turn around to look at you, you light a cigarette,
I wish I had the guts to bum one, but we've never met,
And I hope that I don't fall in love with you.

I can see that you are lonesome just like me, and it being late,
You'd like some some company,
Well I turn around to look at you, and you look back at me,
The guy you're with has up and split, the chair next to you's free,
And I hope that you don't fall in love with me.

Now it's closing time, the music's fading out
Last call for drinks, I'll have another stout.
Well I turn around to look at you, you're nowhere to be found,
I search the place for your lost face, guess I'll have another round
And I think that I just fell in love with you.

Brilliant is the only, and most understated way I can think to describe Tom Waits. I know he could have said it better, but that's why he's Tom Waits, and none of us are. lol. This goes back to the start, and it's such a departure from where he ends up all these years later, but it was great. It might just be one of my favorites, even though I'm a Rain Dogs fan, his earlier works were just as colorful and vibrant and there's so many other ways to describe it, but I will just leave it at that.

I have only started to appreciate him in recent years, but as I discover him I realise why he has so many dedicated fans (Including his friend Bette Middler).

He has such a way with words, and he's created a cool persona for himself. He's like the Kristofferson song says, "partly truth and partly fiction. It keeps your mind on it's toes.:) Raindogs and Closing Time are my top two Tom Waits records. Nighthawks at the diner is a brilliant faux live recording, and more recently, Orphans is a great collection of all three sides of this 3 dimensional artist.

@Diggler: I like the quote, very true about having to keep the mind on it's toes.
I have a fondness for Martha, I took the long way home, God's away on business.

Ca me rappelle le dernier vers de A une Passante de Beaudelaire, "O toi que j'eusse aimée, o toi qui le savait"
MrSquishy · 56-60, M
@diablesse: Magique et excitant.
ChampagneOnIce · 51-55, F
No idea what either of you said but pretty sure I agree, and my heart is with you.

@ChampagneOnIce: Let us whisper a translation in your ears....;-)

I absolutely love this song, means a lot

Do you have a story to share about it?

Now that would be telling...! There was someone we met online rather than in a bar, we were both lonely, maybe it could have been more than it was, but it helped....there were unacknowledged feelings but it wasn't meant to be
