Did anyone get the cane off the head at school?
I had the dubious privilege of bending over for it six times at secondary school. It never seemed to hurt less!

I was only ever sent to the Head once, in the Upper 6th, for going to the pub at lunchtime. If I hadn't been a sixth former I would certainly have been caned for that. As it was I was sent home for the rest of the afternoon and told I'd have to copy up any work I missed in my own time. I'd visited the Deputy Head twice previously for the same thing, with the same result.

@jennypenny: As it was for us, the cane was the much better option. For less serious matters, we were offered the choice of detention or the slipper, as far as I know everyone chose the slipper.

I am glad we never got caned at school though my Dad would at home so humiliating to bend over in front of a teacher

There was a bit of hypocrisy in schools there. Girls often had to lift their skirts, in front of boys and girls, to be slippered for the offence of flashing their knickers to the boys.

I managed to avoid it. In a strange way I wish I had been caned at least once.

@MartinII: In my school it was mostly smoking, truancy and persistent misbehaviour that earned us the cane. Skipping detention or failing to do lines could result in a caning but usually just resulted in a serious slippering. Skirt too short and other uniform offences were also usually dealt with by a slippering.
The cane was only used by the headmaster, deputy headmistress and the year heads (1 male; 1 female)). I was caned by all four of them at different times. Other teachers only used the slipper.

@jennypenny: My wife got the cane when she was at school for rolling the waistband of her skirt to shorten it. At my school, girls were regularly slippered in class for the same offence.

@NortiusMaximus: Rolling the waist band was treated as a more serious offence than just having too short a skirt. I was caned for that one too.
