I Have Something to Say

My son made me laugh today, it felt good, I hadn't laughed so loud and hard in weeks. It hurt my belly (literally) my incision is still sore, I'm paying for laughing at what I laughed at with this pain.

My upstairs neighbor was praying, loudly, at first we thought she was yelling and arguing with someone (usually it's her ex) and I muted the tv because she has a history of fighting with her child upstairs in tears and he has been caught in the middle of physical altercations between her and her old boyfriends and his father.

The kids and I were watching Alice through the looking glass in the living room when we heard her loud voice, she sounded like she was yelling and crying. I muted the tv and we remained silent for a minute trying to figure out if i had to call the cops or not, or go downstairs and signal to her mom that she was in trouble. Well a few minutes in I heard what she was saying. She was chanting a prayer and she did sound like she was on the verge or tears but she was basically asking god to cover her child with his grace and protect them from the evils that are "bountiful" every day. The chant was in Spanish and my kids although they understand Spanish they aren't fluent especially when spoken so rapidly.

I unmuted the tv and I said "she ok let's keep watching the movie"

My 7 year old said "what was she doing? Who's she fighting with?"

I replied "no one she's praying"

My 10 year old chimed in "PRAYING?! How is that praying? And what is she praying for so loudly?"

I said "protection for her and her kids"

My 10 year old then said "who do you think will answer her prayers? I don't know if God will respond kindly to people yelling at him"

I should have explained to him that even sometimes the most noble and selfless of prayers go unanswered and that maybe she felt adding passion and strength would make her prayer more powerful and louder than the millions going up to heaven.

Oh well I don't want him doubting his faith although if he's anything like me he's already not just doubting but questioning it....

I would hope god could appreciate the passion and sincerity that comes with blind desperation and anger towards him.

She does this monthly, I think she's on a spiritual cleanse. Either way I hope her prayers and everyone's are always answered.
