In this texting age, do you like getting phone calls?

I hate it. Unless it's an emergency - Just text please.

I only want to talk on the phone if there is something to talk about. I can't deal with mindless phone chit chat :/

Telephones were okay when there was just Ma Bell (that tells you how long I've had one). No, I don't. The damn thing rings every time I sit down for a meal - I haven't had a hot one in MONTHS. If I'm not eating, I'm in the bathroom, or in the laundry room. I don't text (don't have the equipment for it), but - God bless America - it's gotten where I shut the ringer off at 9:00 PM and don't put it on again until I get up in the A.M. My family hates that, but I've told them, time and again, they can call me anytime between those hours - if I'm not home, they miss me and can call back. If I get one of those calls where I don't recognize the name or "private call" or "unknown" I just don't answer it. My TV has a little box on the screen that let me know who's calling, so if I am home and online and the phone rings, if I don't know you - I don't pick up or call back. Most phone calls are marketing calls, or, with the election coming up, political calls. My Mom used to have the best answer for those last. She would say sweetly, "Honey, I can't tell you who I'm going to vote for (or my opinion). I'm a Democratic election judge." She said it never failed to get a stuttered apology or a hasty hangup.

If I need to have a conversation, the phone is the way to go. Texting, for me at least, is a means to give out information or ask a simple question.

I love getting phone calls! I never get texts but I'm part of tons of WhatsApp group chats, where there are thousands of messages flying every day. So, I have to turn the notification sound off on WhatsApp. So I never hear when I get a message. So I only actually get to talk to people when they call me.

I'm now worried that random strangers have your phone number...

I don't worry about that. If I don't know who's calling, I don't answer it. They don't know if I am here or not.

Funny thing - yesterday a friend in Ohio (I live in Illinois) called me. I hadn't heard from her in several years but I recognized the name on the caller I.D. We talked baseball and then reminisced on old times. I enjoyed talking to her, but I did explain my policy on not picking up on a call if the person calling doesn't identify him or herself or is not familiar to me. My exceptions to this policy is the occasional toll-free number that I have left a request to call when the line is free.

I hate both. DND
I call if I want to have a conversation. I only text in short bursts, and then I put the phone away.
